Flask of whiskey. To offer the “other guy” if you get in an accident.
Hey, man you ok?
Yeah I think so, you?
Yeah. Wow, I’m glad at least no one got hurt. Your adrenaline still going?
Yeah, my hands are shaking.
Me too, wow. Here, have a drink. That’ll help calm you down.
(Gulp) Ahh, thanks that’s some good stuff, what is it?
Balvenie 12 year, yeah, good stuff.
You gonna have some?
No thanks, I’ll wait ‘til the cops come.
edit: damnit kinja, I was trying to reply to the OP. whatever.

Might want to throw in one of those battery chargers for your regular phone. If you’re stuck you might as well waste some time on netflix or whatever. And some of those disposable hand warmers. They’re cheap, and allow you to be a little warm if you want/ have to shut the engine off.

$40.. put two twenties in there just in case..
I carry boots, gloves, and winter gear because I may end up walking out. I’m going to assume you have a shovel, kitty litter, and jumper cables in the car already?

Depending on area add fire starter, camp stove(or Sterno), space blanket, emergency bivouac, chocolate, hot chocolate and bouillon cubes. I did cross country area ski patrols for 3 years. These items were handy even when treating X-country skiers or kids at the sledding hill. We had a skier go 30 feet down through trees and broke a couple bones. She was kept warm and put away some hot liquids until we could get here hauled out by local rescue squad. She was only 2 miles off a main road that had a dirt road to within 300 ft of where she was. Made for an exciting late winter day. Good thing one of our group made a last lap of the trail near sundown or the lady would have had an all nighter in 20ºf temps. When we travel in winter my wife thinks I’m nut for all the stuff I keep in the car. Extra gloves, hats, windshirts, etc, but the times they been needed she doesn’t complain.

I have warm gloves in already for putting gas in, and always have my winter coat. I don’t jumpers, but lithium-ion jumper battery.

I can’t take credit for the idea, sadly; it’s a joke I’ve heard, multiple variations exist. The first time I heard it was about two guys going to a baseball game, Red Sox fan and Yankees fan... you get the idea. Maybe they exchanged a budweiser. “Woah, even my beer survived the wreck OK, you want one?”

I’ve ought to make one of these. I could probably use some of the spare tire space for this since I dont carry my spare around anymore. I like to keep a sturdy compact shovel as well for the winter months.
Are canola bars like a frozen brick of canola oil? That sounds pretty gross =p

Cheap bright colored rain coat. Air inflator if you need to change to your spare and its underinflated.

I always have a lighter, in case I need to set my car on fire to stay warm.
